Corporate responsibility in action— Caan Homes had the privilege of allowing local law enforcement the use of one of our properties for training. This allowed practice in a safe simulated environment. These drills are essential to protect the community served by both Caan Homes and the Des Plaines Police Department.

Caan Homes appreciates the service the Des Plaines Police Department does for the community. We would also like to thank Alderman Denise Rodd and Dick Sayad for allowing us the opportunity to help the community.

The Des Plaines Police Department is a full service law enforcement agency comprised of 97 full-time sworn police officers, 15 auxiliary police officers, and 18 civilian personnel, all committed to making Des Plaines a safe and inviting community.  The Department strives to maintain high ethical and professional standards of service delivery to our residents and visitors.

The primary objective of the Des Plaines Police Department is to provide 24-hour professional police service to the community, ensuring the protection of life and prosperity. To accomplish this, the department is divided into two divisions: the Administrative Division and the Operations Division.

The Operations Division is the largest division in the Police Department and provides highly visible 24-hour police services. Unlike other divisions, which include some civilian support staff, the operations division is staffed entirely by officers including: a deputy chief, three commanders, nine sergeants, and 51 officers. Four community service officers from the support services division are assigned to the operations division and assist the uniform officers in completing their mission. The operations division is comprised of the accident reconstruction team, evidence technicians, tactical response team, and uniform patrol.

The Des Plaines Police Department Investigations Section oversees criminal investigations that occur within the City of Des Plaines. The Investigations Section is comprised detectives that handle both juvenile and adult cases, as well as a tactical unit which is responsible for gang and narcotics activity, two school resource officers, and two task force officers (Drug Enforcement Administration, and US Customs). There are eight detectives, and eight officers within the division that report to the two Detective Sergeants as well as the Division Commander. The entire Investigations Section falls within the responsibility of the Deputy Chief of Administration.
